Finding a right place to experience canyoning in the United Arab
Emirates or other GCC countries can be difficult. Since most of the countries
in GCC region are covered with a vast ocean of sands and sand dunes. However,
there are still places in Oman, one of the countries in GCC, to experience this
activity to the fullest.
Canyoning in Oman usually include swimming, wading
through wadis and pools, climbing, abseiling, walking and scrambling over and
around rocks. In most part of the world canyoning is usually done in mountain
canyons with flowing waters. Also canyoning is
frequently done in remote and rugged settings and often requires navigational, route-finding and
other wilderness travel skills.
This activity can also be a dangerous sport since escaping out the sides of a canyon is often impossible, and completion of the
descent is the only possibility. Due to the remoteness and inaccessibility of
many canyons, rescue can be impossible for several hours or several days. So,
full safety equipment, training supplied and following your guide’s instruction
might save you the trouble.
Canyoning
in Oman can be experience through the Snake Gorge walk which entails
three kilometres of walking, wading through pools, swimming, and scrambling
over boulders in the gorge between two cliffs, to eventually come out at
Al-Zamman. You may combine canyoning with abseiling to Oman’s famous cave, the
Majlis Al Jinn cave.
There are several tour operators and organizations
that offer tours to Oman with the choice of any activities. However, canyoning
in Oman alone or with a group of inexperienced people can be very dangerous.
